Meeting Slated
An intensive campaign to raise $30,000 and 5,000 members for the Butler Street YMCA moved past the halfway mark Monday night as volunteer workers turned in $1,626 to score a total of $15,657.
Workers, noting that the campaign had entered its last week, vowed to redouble efforts to reach the goal before the final date.
After a conference of campaign leaders, W. H. "Chief" Aiken announced that the final date for the drive's closing had been decided as Wednesday, May 6, and urged workers not to fail in the effort.
Main purpose of the financial campaign this year is to secure money to complete a camp site on Lake Altoona in time for use this summer. In addition, the YMCA board of directors has plans to install a cafeteria in the Butler Street building.
Leading the campaign remittances for the first time during the drive, National Division teams under the leadership of J. L. Wolfe, G. L. Chandler, and Attorney E. S. D'Antignac, turned in $836.27 Monday.
Teams remitting the most money and largest number of members were led by Alfred Wyms and L. E. Turner, two veteran YMCA volunteer workers.
Three teams, fighting in friendly rivalry for first place in the entire drive were congratulated by fellow workers. One of these led by Dr. Albert Davis has turned in over $1,500, while a team led by J. B. Blayton, Jr., has remitted $936 and a team with E. M. Edwards captain and Miss Ella Mae Tate co-captain has turned in $934.
W. R. Cochrane, "Y" executive secretary, lauded several workers for outstanding reports during the drive. Individual workers who have
