When the President left the Hall, after dinner, all present arose; after this, the Hon. George G. King proposed the health of his Excellency the President of the United States, which was drank, standing, with three hearty cheers.
The Ball in the evening, at the Bellevue, was attended by a large number of ladies and gentlemen. The President honored the assemblage with his presence for about an hour and a half, and was introduced to a number of those present. The music by the U.S. Band from Fort Adams was excellent, and the dancing was continued until a late hour. A number of the officers from Fort Adams were present, in full uniform.
Among the arrivals at the Bellevue from Boston, by the evening boat, we noticed Hon. George Lunt, U. S. District Attorney, Col. Schouler, editor of the Atlas, Hon. N. P. Banks, Jr., Speaker of the House of Representatives, Gen. Heard and Col. Needham, of Gov. Boutwell's staff, both in full uniform, who came on to invite the President to Boston, as the guest of the State.
The President and suite left here yesterday morning, at 7 o'clock, in the steamer Canonicus, for Fall River where they were to take a special train for Boston. The President will leave Boston for Washington tomorrow evening, by this route; Mrs. Fillmore will meet him at the boat and return home with him. As he comes down tomorrow evening, we think it would be a good plan to send up some rockets from the Long Wharf, and also to give him a hearty cheering.
