Man Who Slashed Policeman Must Serve Year and Pay $500.
Thomas Pimotic, charged with carrying concealed weapons, received a sentence from Judge Phelan, Wednesday, which the judge hopes will act as a preventive of Wild West escapades in the northern outskirts of the city, where, it is alleged, foreigners employed in the big factories, make a practice of shooting off revolvers, frequently shattering the windows of street cars and houses, and endangering the lives of many.
Pimotic and another foreigner were indulging in that pastime on Oakland-ave., when Mounted Patrolman John McKay was called, and attempted to arrest them. Pimotic, who had a large dirk in his sleeve, and a 38-caliber revolver in his pocket, slashed the officer with the dirk, wounding McKay about the hand and arm before he was overpowered.
Judge Phelan sentenced him to pay a fine of $500 and serve one year in the workhouse, in addition, with the alternative of serving two years if he failed to pay the fine.
