Full Text
The Racine, Wisconsin, Journal contrasts the reception of Senator Howe (Radical) with that accorded to Senator Doolittle, by the people of that city, in the following:
Vastly different this reception from the manner in which Senator Doolittle was received at his home. No delegation of his constituents were in waiting to receive him. During his stay in the city, while no insult was offered him, the cold and distant bow or the averted face of those who once warmly welcomed him, told too plainly how deeply indignant the people of Racine were at his course during the past winter. It told that the Legislature of the State expressed the sentiments of the people when they demanded Senator Doolittle to resign. And the delegation that went from Racine (the home of Senator Doolittle) to welcome Senator Howe, was a stern verdict of the condemnation of the course pursued by Doolittle in supporting the 'my policy' of Andrew Johnson.
