Full Text

The Herald gave a rumor, and gave it only as a rumor, that the several railways entering this city proposed to erect a Union Depot, a thing which would necessitate the abandonment of the Arcade Depot. Yesterday morning, on fuller investigation, we said that there was nothing in it. Today, to give fuller impressment, we state on the authority of General E. E. Hewitt that the Southern Pacific Railway has never so much as entertained such a project. This rumor we shall now assume to have been hunted, like a fox, to its hole, to have gone into its hole and to have pulled the hole in after it.
