The Jackson Day Dinner, held annually under auspices of the Young Democrats of North Carolina, will be held Saturday, March 17, in the form of a regular old-fashioned Democratic rally, beginning with a get-together meeting from 6 to 7 o'clock, dinner and speaking from 7 to 10 and dancing from 10 to 12 o'clock, all in the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Mrs. May Thompson Evans, president, announces.
Four national Democratic figures are being considered for the principal out-of-State speaker, including Senator Pat Harrison, Mississippi, Senator Alvin Barkley, Kentucky, keynoter at the last Democratic National Convention, and General Hugh Johnson, head of the National Recovery Administration. One of these is certain to be the speaker, but the orator of the invitation is not announced.
The dinner committee met recently and started the plans and will meet again January 27 in the Graham Memorial building at Chapel Hill to make more definite plans. Present indications are that there will be no limit to the number, unless it should be evident that more than the 1,000 that can be comfortably seated in the auditorium should seek to attend. The limit will be that number, and it is expected that approximately a thousand Democrats will wish to be present.
