A few weeks ago, in the city of London, the wife of Mr. Prestridge, grocer, put a period to her existence. Her husband, having been in a very embarrassed state, was subject to repeated arrests, which so affected his wife, that she suffered occasional aberration of intellect. On Tuesday evening, Mr. P. having previously committed an act of bankruptcy, a docket was struck, and his wife being informed of that fact, expressed herself thankful, as she no longer dreaded his being arrested. On Wednesday morning she complained of a sharp pain in her head. Between 9 & 10 o'clock the servant went to call her to breakfast, and on knocking at her chamber received no answer. She informed her master, who broke open the door, and found his wife lying on the ground, struggling, with her throat cut from ear to ear, and the ground covered with blood. A bloody razor lay near her right hand. Medical aid was called in, but she expired in a few minutes. The distressed condition of the husband is indescribable. All his property being taken under the commission, he has not money to pay funeral expenses. An infant, three months old, lay in bed at the same time she committed the lamentable act!
