Starved To Death!

A most revolting and unheard of affair came before Recorder Bertus yesterday. Officer Anthony Crados, of the first municipal police, was informed on Tuesday last, that a child had been abandoned in a house on St. Anne street, between Claiborne and Robinson, that it was locked up in a chest, where it had remained for several days for the purpose of starving it to death! On the strength of this information the Police repaired to the house, and there found the child in the chest, the sparks of life almost extinct. The prime mover of this diabolical affair is a negress. They were all arrested and an investigation will be had forthwith. With proper care it is thought the child may survive.
