Full Text

In Passing

WHEN OCTOBER DAYS ARE GONE
As we wound around the road
And came up over the hill,
A gorgeous sight to behold
Made the heart almost stand still!

Below was the wide, rich valley:
Some corn already in shock.
The trees, a riot of color,
Topped a winding ridge of rock.

Golden pumpkins on the vine;
The sun gleaming bright over all;
Birds were flying southward,
Sure harbingers of the fall.

A picture, this, to cherish
When October days are gone,
Its beauty forever ours,
In poignant memory lives on.
