Full Text
In the Senate of Massachusetts, says the New Haven Register, the proposed constitutional amendment requiring adopted citizens to reside in the State two years after being naturalized, before being allowed to vote, was adopted by a vote of 25 to 9. This is Massachusetts Know Nothingism. In New York the property qualification for negroes is not only to be abolished, says the Albany Argus, but the three years residence heretofore required of that class. This is New York Republicanism. In one State five years is too short a term for a white man, and in another three years is too short a term for a negro!
