Color Ban Dropped By Mayflower Hotel

WASHINGTON, D.C.--The famous Mayflower Hotel here dropped its color ban some three months ago, it was learned last week by Drew Pearson, popular radio commentator and columnist, just as he was preparing to call on the Mayflower management and "give 'em hell" about the undemocratic policy.

The incident, as related by Pearson, occurred in connection with a scheduled meeting of the International Platform Association, composed of professional concert artists, lecturers and entertainers, of which he is the president, Sunday and Monday.

A member, Etta Moten, noted Negro concert artist of stage, screen and television, had written him that she had decided to forego the meeting in the belief that she would not be welcomed as a guest, incident to the hotel's anti-Negro policy.
