The All-Stars will engage the powerful Northwest Georgia All-Stars in a pair of "dream games" the first of which gets underway at 2:20 o'clock. Star pitcher for the invaders is J. W. Youngs of Powder Springs lined up with Pipe Davis or Mule Suttles, the battery starting for the invaders is booked to be Rufus Lester, a strapping big righthander with a blazing fast ball, and Hugh Grogan of Marietta, a hustling mask and mitt man. Lester hails from Clarkdale and has long been the ace of the strong semi-pro club making that progressive burgh its home.
PITCHERS "ON SPOT"
Manager Lucius Jones, skipper of the All-Stars, faced with the problem of playing five games in three days, will have a severe pitching challenge in either the opener or nightcap with one of the hurlers who faced the Swift Black Caps yesterday afternoon.
In fact, one of these particular twirlers will have to go to the hill for the third time in one of the two games against the Scripto Black Cats in the Labor Day twin bill, starting at 2:30 o'clock, at Ponce de Leon Park tomorrow afternoon.
TENTATIVE ASSIGNMENTS
Lefty Gene Jones drew the starting assignment against East Point. Lefty Pritchett and Austell Reid will twirl them to victory in tomorrow's twin bill against the All-Stars. George Humphrey will work behind the bat.
George Hill and Doc Wingo will divide the catching burden for the All-Stars in the four games today and tomorrow.
FIELD EVENTS
The games between the All-Stars and Scripto Labor Day will reek with color and pack a tremendous wallop for holiday fans,
because they will offer ceremonies, starting at two o'clock, 30 minutes before game-time, that includes an open 50 yard dash, base-circling contest and baseball throw. Three players off each team will be eligible to compete in each event, with the winners receiving special awards from local merchants.
REWARDS FOR HOME RUNS
A fried chicken dinner from Smitty's Grill will be given for every home run, a quart beer from Yeah Man at Feuomy Delicatessen. The player getting most hits in the doubleheader gets free beer from Boxortapi's Shoe Shop. Silver Moon Bakery is giving a baked cake to the player with the longest hit. Despite the presence of left-handed batters like Judge (Butty) Harris, (Red) Emory Long, Thomas (Monk) Favors, and Clay, the Atlanta All-Stars haven't taken advantage of the rightfield signs at Ponce de Leon or the right center home run dump at the Washington stadium. Needless to say, their sluggers will be gunning for honors today.
Hosts of local and visiting fans from Northeast Georgia will be on the scene, too, hoping to see some chicken dinners, cakes, and beer won.
