From Cairo

Cairo, May 31—The dispatch boat New National from Young's Point on Tuesday afternoon has arrived.

There was fighting on Monday, from 6 to 9 P.M., when a cessation of hostilities took place—both parties burying their dead.

The battle was renewed on Tuesday morning, but no particulars have been received.

Few, if any, of the water batteries have been taken.

Shells from Sherman's siege guns fall into the city. They can be seen from the fleet.

Banks' forces have not arrived.

Forty-four hundred prisoners are expected to arrive here tonight. They will be sent to Indianapolis.
