Springfield AFL backs teachers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.-The President of the Springfield Federation of Labor, Sam Bonansinga, has pledged full support to the school teachers in this city in their efforts to win a salary increase.

The people in a recent election approved an increase in the educational tax in order that the teachers' pay could be raised.

The teachers union had demanded $700 increase for the present school year. The Board of Education however offered the teachers a boost of $400. This was unanimously rejected by the teachers.

The President of the Federation yesterday at a meeting of 300 teachers said, 'We are going to see to it that the teachers get their $700 increase if it is at all possible.'
