AURORAL SOCIETY OF
ALASKA RECRUITING
OBSERVER MEMBERS

Announcement was made at the Alaska Science Conference last week of the organization this fall of an Auroral Society of Alaska at the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute. The object of the society is to record special and rare observations of the auroral or northern lights manifestations which are unusually frequent in Alaska.

The society hopes to recruit members who will act as auroral observers from all parts of the Territory.

The causes of the phenomena and the frequency of its observed manifestations in different parts of the earth's sphere was the subject of an evening discussion at the Science Conference by Dr. Sydney Chapman of Queen's College, Oxford, England, a visiting professor at the University of Alaska.

Anyone wishing to become a member of and observer for the Auroral Society of Alaska should get in touch with Dr. Chapman at the University of Alaska.
