Bluffton college has a freshman class of 80 for the fall term opening Thursday of this week, an increase of 35 per cent over the 1949 enrollment, it was announced Tuesday by the college registrar's office.

At the same time it was indicated that registration of upper class students being completed Wednesday is expected to be approximately the same as a year ago.

Following the completion of registration on Wednesday, regular classroom work for the start of the 1950-51 school year will get under way on the campus Thursday.

The freshman class of 80 has been here since last Saturday for a four-day campus orientation program, and first-year registration was completed on Tuesday. Last year there were 60 freshmen at the school.

With a continuation of the upward trend in enrollment which started following the close of World War II, all campus dormitories again are filled and some students will be quartered in rooms about the town. All available facilities for married students in the school's trailer village also will be taken, it was announced.

Among this year's students will be a German young man, Rudolph Kisters; a Porto Rican girl, Minerva Diaz; and a sophomore, Ruth Bamfield, of Trinidad, who is returning for her second year.

Several natives from Nigeria, Africa, and two Chinese students also are expected. Two sisters from India, Mary and Elizabeth Bauman, also have enrolled. They are daughters of Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Bauman, medical missionaries to India, both of whom are Bluffton college graduates.
