A CONSTABLE SHOOTS A JUSTICE.

Mr. Jas. A. Burch, a well known citizen and magistrate in this county, was shot by Geo. W. Porter, constable of the same beat, under the following circumstances: The parties were at Allgood's Mill, and started home together on horseback. There had been some little ill feeling between them in their official relations, and some sharp words passed during their ride. At last, Burch remarked to Porter that he would have nothing more to do with him, to which Porter replied that he (Burch) should have something more to do with him. At these words Burch turned rather sharply around toward Porter when the latter drew a pistol and shot Burch through the side, the ball entering in front and passing out at his back. Burch, however, rode home, about a quarter of a mile distant. The shooting occurred on Saturday last. Porter has not been heard from since. He is a tolerably old man, probably seventy years, while Burch is about sixty.
