ENTERS COMBAT ZONE
Richard Cornwell, son of John Cornwell, manager of the Dream Theatre, and former Nome High School youth, informs his father in a recent letter dated from San Francisco, that he has been assigned to an invasion barge, and has left San Francisco for parts unknown, presumably in the combat area of the Pacific.
Richard, who is 18 years old, and well-known in Nome, left this city last March for the States, where he entered the United States Navy. His classification in that branch of service is that of fireman, first class, and at the time of writing his recent letter, he had been assigned to diesel engine work on the invasion barge mentioned.
Since joining the navy, Richard has been a student of diesel engines in the naval school at Ames, Iowa, and it was from this station he was assigned to his present post.
