Easterners have never shown as much interest in western vacations as they are this year, according to word received by Secretary A. J. Breitenstein of the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce from Dan Young, manager of Gallatin Gateway Inn, who has been making a tour of the east lecturing on Montana dude ranches and recreational features.
Since Jan. 15, Young and Chet Dilley, passenger representative of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific railroad, have appeared before a total audience of 35,000 listeners in groups of from 25 to 2,300 in all the larger cities of the states of Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Missouri, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine and Tennessee.
"In addition to showing three sets of pictures which included one depicting the early history and building of the Milwaukee road up to date and including scenes from Chicago to Gallatin Gateway Inn; one set pertaining to Yellowstone national park and the third set pertaining to Montana dude ranches in general in which I played my most important part, lecturing on that subject as a representative of all," Young wrote. "Dilley lectured on the railroad."
"In addition to this, as an ambassador of good will for the state of Montana, I made broadcasts over 13 of the nation's largest broadcasting stations, being given from 15 to 30 minutes in each instance. One of these included a worldwide short wave hookup over the General Electric broadcasting station at Schenectady, N. Y. This station alone has an estimated potential audience of more than 500,000 listeners in all English speaking countries and there is no telling how many more hundreds of thousands heard my program over the other stations which were either National or Columbia hookups.
"In addition, we received a large amount of newspaper publicity in every one of the 32 cities in which we appeared and which, I am sure you will agree, is a fine lot of publicity in the interest of dude ranching."
Young will remain in Chicago for the remainder of this month and will continue his job of advertising Montana dude ranches. He has addressed civic, women's and other clubs, as well as carried on an intensive personal contact campaign.
