Malamud Wins Book Award
NEW YORK. (JTA)- Bernard Malamud, author of the recently published "The Magic Barrel," a collection of 13 short stories dealing with Jewish life, has received the annual American Book Award for fiction. The award each year cites the writers of the best books published in the past year in the fields of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
The winners are selected on the basis of a poll among 200 American booksellers and librarians. "The Magic Barrel" was published by Farrar, Straus and Cudahy and the Jewish Publication Society of America.
