Full Text
There has been nothing of importance done in Congress as yet. The Standing Committees have been appointed in both Houses, and the Reports from the Departments have all been sent in. Several select committees on portions of the President's Message have also been appointed, the most important of which is the committee on the currency. It consists of the following members:
Messrs. Cushing, John P. Kennedy, Gilmer, G. Davis, Wise, Roosevelt, Proffit, McKay and Wm. W. Irwin.
Of this committee, five sustained Mr. Tyler's course on the Bank question at the Extra Session: two are Locos and two are Whigs. The Speaker doubtless selected the Committee, in order that the President's views may be fairly heard and discussed.
Chaplains—The Rev. Septimus Tuston was elected Chaplain to the Senate, and the Rev. J. N. Marritt Chaplain to the House.
