STAY AFTER 'EM DULLES
Personally, we've been left cold and a bit irked at the repercussions, mostly of political nature, some folk in high position have been making of the recent "brink of war" statement by Secretary of State John Dulles.
Since when has it become wrong for the United States, as the greatest, strongest, peace-loving country of the Allied nations, to use every means possible to protect its own interests and that of the people? Hasn't history taught all nations that a policy of strength, and firmness, not one of softness and concessions, is the surest way to maintain peace? Frankly, we feel Mr. Dulles in dealing with the deceiving, Godless Russians and China Reds has shown just plain "guts," if you'll pardon the expression and it has paid off. We are inclined to agree with Sen. Bridges of New Hampshire who said, "Rather than being criticized for 'brink of war' policies, the secretary should be commended that his policy is to keep us out of war."
Then, too, we're continually peeved at the mouthings of some in high office, on the side of both national parties (Republican and Democrat), and in the newspaper, radio, TV medias, who seem always more concerned of U. S. actions offending the nations abroad. Count them, will you, and tell us how many of the "nations abroad" are our real, to-be-depended-upon friends? These same people, concerned over hurting the feelings of our so-called friends abroad, should show more concern over the damages these nations do to America and its citizens. There's far more criticism in the "nations abroad" newspapers of the United States than there is criticism in the American press of the Europeans, Asiatics, etc. Personally, We're For America first. That's how other people feel and react towards their own country. Why shouldn't we? Let's have more Star Spangled Banner Americans --and less "politics."
