W. MEDFORD, Mass., June 11—Children's Day was fittingly observed at Shiloh last Sunday with a special sermon by Pastor Bailey lauding the Christian characteristics of young people before they receive prejudices from parents. The annual presentation of potted flowers with the graduation of kindergarten and elementary grade students was carried on by Supt. Pinkston. Among the interesting program features was a song by little Elaine Fisher, accompanied by her little brother Curtis and Mrs. Arline Fisher at the piano.

City Hall News Alderman Dello Russo of South Medford last week completed his objective in procuring the old Tufts School for a recreation center in his district. This is the two-story building now housing a nursery and classes in arts and crafts which allegedly was headed for this community. It has been named for an Italian-American war hero. The Parent-Teacher organization will iron out many of the school problems which some of us tried to do as individuals. Moreover, there are some good people on the Medford School Committee, including Mrs. Pearl Larson and Mrs. Margaret Hanson. Textbooks will be closely watched from now on and a colored teacher is slated to work here next fall. So let's not get too excited. We are making progress. To really see and understand the workings of your city government any person 10 years or over is invited to enjoy a free June 28 Tour of the Medford municipal buildings as guest of the Mayor and City Hall officials. This is the first of a series of many kinds of tours being sponsored by the Historic and Educational Committee of the Community Club and registrations may be made before June 25. with Mrs. Sarah Schenck, Mrs. exercises was rendered. John W. Clarke of Hotel Massasoit, Spencer, Mass. was doing the city Wednesday, Rev. Russell Roberts filled the pulpit of A.M.E. Zion Church at the evening services.

Ella Smith, Mrs. Minnie Roos, Miss Ethal Evans, Mrs. Harriet Darden and Mr. Wilbur Sherwood. We understand that future tours will include big airports, art museums, industrial plants and many other truly educational features. This is a splendid idea. Next September a Girl Scout Troop will be organized at the Center, and, on Monday, June 18, the annual Community Club Field Day will be held at Dugger Park. There will be Scout exhibitions, baseball, track and dancing. Mr. and Mrs. John Wilkerson and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rhone recently enjoyed a trip to Newport visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. William A. Wright and daughter, Maude, left for Freeman Virginia last week to visit her relatives and friends. Mrs. Hazel Williams of Harrisburg, Penn, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Henrietta Smith of Jerome st. Mr. Hayes McCoy injured recently in an accident at home was treated at Malden Hospital after being rushed there by ambulance last week. Mrs. Helen Green of Jerome st. was reported on the sick list this week. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Parham of Lincoln st., visited their son, Lieut. Lloyd Parham at the Devens army hospital, ward fifteen, Sunday. Mrs. Parham says Lloyd will appreciate seeing his old friends and neighbors as he is now confined to bed as a result of wounds received with the 92nd in Italy, hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Drive up. Mr. Frank Hazel, recovering from a siege of sickness has done excellent work for the NAACP. in spite of handicaps, by registering 150 members. Don't forget the benefit concert featuring the Gospel Chorus Tuesday night, June 19th at the Center. Thanks for your news. —M.K.
