Jasper, Oct. 30.—Morris Westmoreland, a well known farmer and stock raiser of the Jasper district of this county, cleaned up the prizes at the Chattanooga District Fair on corn and cattle. This was all the more remarkable as he failed to make much showing at the Sequatchie Valley Fair in his home county. He got double blue ribbon on corn and sweepstakes on cattle against a field of 100 show cattle. He took the blue ribbon on best bull the same big Aberdeen-Angus animal which he had at the Sequatchie Valley Fair and on which he failed to get the ribbon, which was awarded to an Alabama man. He also had a small bull of same stock on which he also won a blue ribbon and the grand championship. He won the sweepstakes on his cattle against all comers in the Chattanooga Fair exhibit.
Mr. Westmoreland was naturally much elated over his success at the Chattanooga Fair, especially as he had to feel the sting of defeat in his home county, and is of the opinion slightly that a prophet—or a cattle raiser—is sometimes without honor at home.
