Woodman, Spare that Tree!-The old tree which for centuries has stood at what is now known as the corner of Pell street and the Bowery, and for years has been familiarly styled the "Charlotte Temple Tree," from the fact that the house before which it stood, was the one where that unfortunate female died, has at last fallen before the spirit of improvement; and where once stood that majestic oak--a monument to her memory--nothing now remains to remind the passer-by of the tale of her sad history, but the familiar sign-board, "The Old Tree House." Mr. Cornell, the present proprietor, we understand, has caused the original tree to be sawed into small pieces, and as soon as the extensive improvements which he is making on the premises are completed, will be most happy to present a piece of the tree that once shadowed the window of Charlotte Temple, to any that may desire to preserve so valuable a memento.
