NEW YORK -(ANP)- Four talented Negro singers have created another first at the staid Metropolitan Opera under the aegis of the tradition crashing Rudolph Bing.
To date "Aida" has been the only operatic vehicle in which most Negro singers were featured Rhea Jackson, Helen Colbert, Dorothy Candee and Ida Jackson's singing in the choral group of Aida's specially selected artists, so impressed Choral Master Kurt Adler that they were placed under contract to sing (background music in Pietro Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana," conducted by Alberto Erede and staged by Hans Busch, for the reason. Pagliacci is on the double bill.
Zinka Milanov Yugoslavic soprano and Jussi Bjoerling. Swedish singer are among the five featured artists backed up by the four opera singing Harlemites. Operatic history. at the Met continues to loom higher and merit has finally come into its own on the world's most well known concert stage.
Janet Collins premiere danseuse is being billed on the opera throwaways and hand-outs in a newly created box along with her corp de ballet. Critics continue to use all the superlatives in the book to describe the Metropolitan artists verve and refreshing approach to ballet.
