WAR DEPARTMENT
WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (ANP).
Maj. Daniel E. Day, chief of the Negro interest section, press branch, in the war department's bureau of public relations, has left for the European and Mediterranean theaters on a 45 day temporary duty assignment.
Maj. Day left the National airport aboard an ATC plane which will take him to Paris from where he will visit areas in Europe and Italy having large concentrations of Negro troops.
One of the first Negro officers assigned to the bureau of public relations, Maj. Day, 31, a resident of Chicago since 1923, came to the bureau as a first lieutenant in August, 1943, and as editor of the war department's weekly releases on the activities of Negro soldiers advanced from that rank to his present grade of major.
In charge of the Negro press section during Maj. Day's absence will be 2nd Lt. George E. Norford.
