EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 14—A statement is made in the Tucson Citizen that the Mexicans who were killed by Conductor Roller and Brakeman Hickman, near Benson, were members of the Mexican junta which is charged with trying to organize a revolutionary movement against the present government of Mexico. Such a statement is credited to the Southern Pacific trainmen, who claim that these men were trying to enlist their fellow-countrymen in their cause at every station along the line.

The facts in the case and the statements of the brother of the two men who were killed fail to carry out such a supposition. According to the brother's story, which was told to the Juarez police, they were all trying to beat their way back from California to El Paso where they expected to take the Mexican Central for their home in the interior of Mexico.

The appearance and mental equipment of the surviving brother, who claims that he was inside the boxcar when his brothers were killed, are contrary to the revolutionary statement, as he is of the lower or "cholo" type of Mexican and one who would be found only in the ranks and not at the head of any sort of a movement, revolutionary or otherwise. The story that he told to Captain Zemoro at the Juarez police station has a much more plausible ring to it than the one credited to the railroad men.

According to his statement they were trying to beat their way over the road by taking a side-door sleeper out of Tucson. The two brothers who were killed climbed on top to see the country with the result that they were discovered by the trainmen and when they were ordered off resisted with fatal results. This story was substantiated by the companion who accompanied the surviving brother across the river to assist him in locating the bodies of his brothers.

Conductor Roller, who was cut in the abdomen by one of the Mexicans, is recovering rapidly at his home in Tucson and, unless unexpected complications develop, he will be able to take his run again in a short time. He has improved sufficiently to permit his removal from the Tucson hospital to his home.
