Salem, Baden, Ger., May 7—The engagement of the Princess Maria Alexandra of Baden, daughter of former Chancellor Max, to Prince Philipp of Hesse, who is a son of Prince Frederick Carl of Hesse and Princess Margaret of Prussia, youngest sister of former Emperor William, was announced today.
The engagement may mean the patching up of a family feud dating back to the time of Emperor William's abdication. It is claimed that Chancellor Max announced his abdication prior to the time for it to take place, thereby forcing William to relinquish the throne.
It is thought the wedding of the prince and the princess during the summer at Salem castle, on Lake Constance, will put an end to the talk of disunion between the houses of Hohenzollern and Hesse.
The prince is 27 and the princess 21.
