The second annual Spiritual Emphasis Week in Presbyterian churches throughout the Territory began last Sunday morning with 25 churches from Metlakatla to Barrow participating. The guest minister serving the First Presbyterian church here is the Rev. Jack L. Zerwas, D. D., of Minot, North Dakota.
Thus far this week services were held every evening and open to the public. Dr. Zerwas' messages followed the theme "We Believe". This theme will continue tonight when the church family will gather together for a Church Family Night Supper at 6:00 o'clock in the church parlors. The theme will be "We Believe in the Christian Family." This is a pot-luck supper, and those coming are asked not to forget their covered dish.
There will be no service of worship Saturday evening and the Spiritual Emphasis Week will conclude with services on Sunday. At the morning worship service Dr. Zerwas will preach on the theme, "We Believe in the Resurrection" and the chancel choir will sing, "My Lord and I." The final message by Dr. Zerwas will be given Sunday evening at the 7:30 service. His theme will be "The Choice." On Sunday morning Dr. Zerwas will also speak to the Presbyterian class at Wrangell Institute on the theme, "A Man of Galilee."
On Monday morning Dr. Zerwas will leave Wrangell and visit other mission stations before returning to Minot. His journey will take him to Sheldon Jackson Junior College in Sitka, Juneau, Anchorage, Fairbanks. On Thursday evening he will leave Fairbanks for Minot.
The congregation and friends of the Presbyterian Church are very grateful to Dr. Zerwas for his timely messages and to his church for their part in our Spiritual Emphasis Week," the Rev. Paul F. Evans, local pastor, said.
