FULL REPORT BY HIS OWN COMMISSION DOES NOT SUPPORT GOVERNOR'S "GLOOM AND DOOM" TALK
Steps taken by the Eisenhower Administration to bolster the Michigan economy, reported by the Governor's Emergency Industrial Production Commission, were brought to light by National Committeeman David W. Kendall after the Democrat governor attempted to suppress all the good news the report contained.
Kendall disclosed the following from the report:
1. The new tax bill will give Michigan's economy a tremendous lift by cutting the total Federal tax bill in Michigan by $577 million, with $320 million savings for individual citizens.
2. New atomic energy legislation will provide additional employment and business opportunity in Michigan.
3. The small business administration already has provided financial assistance to 19 small firms and has helped 26 small firms obtain government contracts.
4. The St. Lawrence Seaway is one of the greatest long-range aids to the State economy.
5. The Federal government has speeded up by six months the allocation of highway funds to match State funds for construction, providing for more jobs.
6. The President's $50 billion highway program, on which Senator Ferguson is working, will result in an increase in the number of motor vehicles and provide employment for 5 million additional workers.
7. The new housing law will stimulate housing and construction in Michigan.
8. Senator Ferguson and Senator Potter are working closely with the Defense Department on more Federal contracts for Michigan.
