AND "JACKASSES"
Cleveland, O., Dec. 28, '33.
Hon. Harry C. Smith,
Editor Gazette, City.
Dear Mr. Smith:-
In reading The Gazette, last week, I noticed that our Mayor failed to recognize our voters by not giving us a place in his cabinet to which we are entitled because of the strength of our vote in the local Republican party. I was reminded of a story told during the recent campaign-the old St. Peter story of a man who rode in to heaven on the back of another who was left outside the door and could not go in because he was on foot and not mounted. We must quit being the "horse" or "jackass" for other people to ride into public office, and then leave us "outside."
Mr. Smith, you can help by telling our people to stop taking empty promises. In the next mayoralty campaign, we must not be tools, horses or jackasses after election. Stop their candidates from coming into our wards when they will not give us the representation we are entitled to, or their wards properly support our candidates for office. If there is money for other employees, there should be money to employ our people. We should stop riding the Central cars, too, and something should be done about shooting our lads by street-car employees and the police.
Let's get busy!
Yours respectfully,
P. J. B.

Main Argument
the community should stop supporting republican candidates who fail to provide proportional representation, jobs, and protection after elections, instead demanding accountability and refusing empty promises.
