Chicago, May 10.—A disastrous conflagration broke out at 5 o'clock this evening in the lumber district, in the southwestern portion of this city, and is still burning brightly, being visible from the business centre. The sash, door and blind factory of Palmer, Fuller & Co., the largest in the city, occupying an entire square, with their lumber yard and drying-houses, was completely destroyed, including a large amount of lumber and shingles. The loss was $110,000, the insurance $45,000. Fifteen dwelling-houses on Union and Ruble streets were burned, causing a loss of about $20,000; insurance $5000. The entire space burned over is about two squares. One old woman was badly burned. The fire was so intensely hot that the department could not work to advantage.
