According to letters from Madrid, the King of Spain appears firmly resolved, and invariably determined, to effect, let the consequence be what it will, the suppression of the Society of Jesuits; in order to which his Catholic Majesty has sent a new order to Mr. Asprau, his ambassador resident at Rome, to insist on and labour the point not ardently with the Pope for the dissolution of that pernicious society.
We are informed that the aversion of the Spanish monarch to the Jesuits is increased, since a farther and more scrupulous search has lately been made in the houses which these sons of Loyola possessed in Spain; whereby it was discovered that these hypocrites had concealed to the value of near seventy millions of piastres, and many papers of importance.
