"Victory In Sight" Says YWCA Drive Chairman

"Victory is definitely in sight," Mrs. Sammye Coan said, as she thanked workers for their diligent efforts in the 1955 Membership Drive at the Phyllis Wheatley Branch YWCA. Addressing volunteers who had raised some $3500 during the Drive at a Victory Dinner held this week she added:

"We are confident that a few remaining reports will push us closer to the goal and that other Atlantas will rally to help the Branch make the quota of 2000 members and $4,000."

The spirited report meeting-dinner was enlivened with presentation of awards to all division captains, section leaders and individual workers.

Cited by general co-chairmen Mrs. Sammye Coan and Mrs. Geneva Haugabrooks, both of whom received an ovation plus gifts in appreciation were: Division One and its captain, Mrs. Marian Mitchell as being first to reach its quota.

Section leaders honored included Mrs. Mitchell for Section A, schools and housing projects. Miss Dorothy Hornsby, Section B, participating members: Section C, clubs and organizations. Miss Ann Caudle, Mrs. Marjorie Albert.

Mrs. Leona C. White: Section D, churches. Mrs. Ann Cooper. Mrs. Elmer Lew, Jr. Mrs. Mayme Hubert and Section E, general, Mrs. Ernest Keith.

Mrs. Mamie Braxton Davis and Miss Helen Toliver, co-captains of Division Two and Mrs. Clara Lowe, staff representative, received plaudits for leading Committee on Administration members and staff workers in sight of its goal of $1600.

Mrs. J. E. Garnett, captain of Life Members Division Three, won additional awards for making the largest financial report and turning in the largest single gift. Mrs. Charles Greene was co-captain.

Other award recipients were Mrs. Haugabrooks, also captain of Men's Division along with Miss Helen Gray and the E. R. School, honored as first school to report during the drive.

Mrs. H. V. Richardson, chairman of the Branch Committee on Administration presented the awards and joined the drive chairmen in expressions of appreciation to the volunteers and in urging further membership increases during this Centennial year celebration of the world wide movement of the Young Women's Christian Association.
