Trial Of Bennie Mason On Shooting Charge Being Held

The trial of Bennie A. Mason, 29, 750 Marshall Av., St. Paul on a charge of first degree assault got under way Monday, November 12.

Mason is charged with shooting George Finney, 28, of 654 Fuller Av., on Oct. 13.

Finney was allegedly shot by Mason as he left his home to enter his auto. The incident is alleged to have occurred because Mason was angered at the attention Finney was giving Mason's former wife Beverly Jean of 187 B. Biglow Lane.

In district court on Oct. 29. bail for Mason was set at $2,500. On Nov. 5, he pled not guilty and the case went to trial Monday.

The trial was halted Wednesday when Mason decided to plead guilty to second degree assault. The jury was dismissed and the judge ordered a pre-sentence investigation of Mason.
