INDIAN DIES WHEN AUTO STRIKES TRAIN CLOSE TO PEMBROKE

LUMBERTON, July 30.-Alford D. Harris, 17, Indian of Shannon, died in a Lumberton sanatorium late Monday of injuries received the day before when the car in which he was riding ran into a Seaboard Air Line train at a crossing near Pembroke. Three other persons suffered minor injuries in the accident.

According to the investigating officers, the 1936 Ford coach in which the four were riding 'was owned and operated by Leroy Harris of Red Springs, Rt. 1. who drove the car on to the railroad as the train reached the crossing.

Coroner D. W. Biggs said that no inquest will be held into Harris' death. The other men injured were Leroy Harris, Warren G. Lowry of Lumberton, Rt. 4, and Dailey Lowry of Pembroke, Rt. 1.

Funeral services for Harriss will be held at Union Chapel Thursday at 3 p.m. with burial in Burnt Swamp cemetery. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Harris of Shannon.
