Full Text

The Abolitionists and Amalgamationists seem to share no better fate in Connecticut than in New York. At Norwich in that State, some man from Boston arrived there, and immediately obtained the Rev. Mr. Dickerson's Church to deliver an Abolition sermon in. The meeting passed off without any disturbance, although there appeared to be a little "commotion" among the auditory. On the second attempt to preach, however, there was quite an outbreak. The mob assembled with fife and drum, and marched up to the Church, took the Rev. Gentleman from his high place, and placing him at the head of the company—marched him out of town, the music playing the rogue's march. Here they gave him to understand that if he was again seen in the place, they would make him a present of what all such rascals so richly deserve, "a coat of tar and feathers."
