POETRY.

FROM THE RICHMOND ENQUIRER.

Suggested on seeing a privateer named
TIMOTHY PICKERING.

WHILE others brave the foaming billow,
And leave behind them all their cares,
Old Tim lies making on his pillow;
False tales, to sow in private ears!

This Arch Private, all proofs attest,
Stands sponsor for those Eastern Sirs,
Who will not let the nation rest,
In consequence of private care!

Laden deep with English notions,
Seditious threats and idle fears,
They fly about to move commotions,
And hide and seek in private ears!

In Britain's cause they carry and fetch,
An abject set of worthless curs.

But look out A-HEAD! there is a KETCH
To take in tow such privateers!

And when Old Jack has laid his course,
He minds not how the compass steers;
But hauls in the wind, and puts in force
His way to stop such privateers!
