To Get Diplomas
At Pool Bottom
Toledo's newest skin divers
will have a Graduation Day to
end all
graduation days—they
will get their diplomas under
water.
More than 75 graduates of the
skin and scuba (air tank) diving
classes of the YWCA will plunge
into the 13-foot-deep YW pool
on Tuesday, April 28, in full
equipment, to receive their wa
terproof certificates at the bot
tom from their instructor, Don
Lea, Sr.
There will be no speechmak
ing in the underwater ceremon
ies, of course, but the usual con
gratulations will be tendered by
a hand-shaking reception com
mittee. All officials on the un
derwater stage will be using
aqua-lungs so they can remain
underwater for the two hour
long festivities, starting at 7:30
p.m.
Underwater entertainment is
scheduled, too, with Mr. Lea per
forming a number of magic
tricks at the bottom of the pool
for spectators—the first time to
anyone's knowledge that magic
tricks have been performed un
derwater.
The graduates are inviting
dry-land friends and relatives to
cheer them on from the poolside
seats. A "dry" reception for the
graduates after the ceremonies
will be held in the YW lounge,
with dancing to recorded music
and refreshments available at a
snack bar.
