Prof. Spencer F. Baird, U. S. Fish Commissioner, has located a shad hatching establishment at Point Pleasant on the Potomac, about thirty miles from Washington, and although the season has been backward, the work thus far has been very satisfactory. It is expected that six or eight million young shad will be hatched out by the 15th of June at the establishment above mentioned, and they will be transported west as fast as possible, for the purpose of stocking the rivers in the Mississippi Valley.
