Zion's long needed Traffic Light has finally arrived and is being installed by the City. This will be a three-light signal, green, orange, and red, with 4 poles one at each corner of the intersection on Sheridan Road (Route 42) and 27th Street in Zion. Its operation will be mechanical and not an auto-trip installation.
The equipment with the exception of the poles is the latest and best obtainable. The proper poles are back ordered. The light is manufactured by the Automatic Signal Division, Eastern Industries, Inc. and General Electric Company.
The installation is on a cost plus day labor basis by McEwen Electric. The Engineering work on this project by Thomas P. Nelligan and Associates estimate the cost at $3207.13.
This project is being paid for out of Motor Fuel Tax funds that are made available for arterial city street improvements.
This work is under the supervision of Commissioner Vernon Thompson.
