Fortress on Boundary Line Falls After Fierce Resistance

London, Sept. 27.---In what appears to be a last combined drive before winter halts military operations anti-bolshevik forces were hammering the reds on three fronts today, according to official communiques received here.

Polish troops occupied Grodno, an important fortress on the Polish boundary line, as established by the Versailles peace conference, a Warsaw communique announced today.

General Wrangel's communique said his forces had taken Alexandrovsk, defeating soviet troops, and were approaching Berdiansk.

General Makhno, opposing the bolsheviki in the region of the Don basin, reported his troops had taken portions of the basin. A junction with Wrangel's forces was said to be in prospect.

Grodno Falls Before Onslaught.

Warsaw, Sept. 27.--Grodno, the fortress city on the river Niemen, has been captured by the Polish army, it was announced today by the general staff. Heavy fighting preceded the city's fall, the bolsheviki resisting desperately. The reds were still battling fiercely in the vicinity of Grodno when the last advices were received here from the scene of action.

The Polish communique, referring to action Saturday, announced important gains against the bolshevik forces along the entire front. Reinforcements failed to strengthen the enemy which fell back southeast of Grodno, losing several hundred prisoners and leaving a number of machine guns in Polish hands.
