Baltimore, Oct. 24.

COLOMBIAN REPUBLIC,

The arrival of the Fanny, capt Baker, at New York on Monday last, in eighteen days from Curacoa, furnishes accounts from the shores of Colombia, but in some points they are contradictory, and none of them are of a clear or decided character. Although we consider the event probable, yet there is no positive statement of Morales having captured Maracaibo, and we are pretty certain the amount of his force is much overrated when put down at eighteen hundred men. The Spanish brig Hercules, which parted from Morales on the third of September, arrived at Curacoa on the 13th, and from that period to the 28th inclusive, no additional intelligence had been received from the Royal expedition. However, the New York Mercantile Advertiser observes: "It was rumored that a letter from Aruba had been received, stating that Morales entered Maracaibo on the 5th ult. but other letters from the same place were entirely silent on the subject." The captain of the schooner said to have brought the letters to Curacoa from Aruba, reported that he saw nine vessels at anchor at Los Tagues, supposed to be part of Morales' squadron, and that afterwards she fell in with two brigs and four schooners under Colombian colors, to whom she gave the information, when they made sail in quest of them."

From the whole of the intelligence, added to the report we had last week, by the Dauntless, from Laguira, we are induced to believe that Maracaibo fell into the hands of Morales but from the force directed against him under Paez and Soublette, it may prove to him a fatal conquest. Deserted, as he is said to have been, by the frigate and the brig Hercules, the Colombian squadron is likely to be a match for him at sea, while on land the heroes of Boyaca and Carabobo will be more than competent to give a closing blow to his enormities. Hitherto his superiority at sea has enabled him to carry on a plundering warfare along a vast extent of coast, which it was impossible, under the circumstances to defend at every point, but that superiority once destroyed his wanton and useless career of blood and plunder must terminate.

The following are extracts from the Curacoa papers. From the praise bestowed on Morales, it is easy to perceive that the first article comes from a royalist source.

The commander of the Spanish brig Hercules, Capt. Montojo, which arrived yesterday at Curacao, from the Gulf of Maracaibo, has nobly informed the recent movements of Gen. Morales, which agreeably to our readers of the 30th Aug. the fleet, after having anchored at Los Taques with fifteen hundred men, proceeded on the 25th of Sept. Curacao, Sept. 21

His majesty's brig Kemphaan, Capt. Hodson arrived on Saturday La Guayra but brought no news whatever of interest from that quarter.

The schr Sally, Lazarre, arrived on Monday afternoon, 16 days from Rio de la Hacha, and brought intelligence of the arrival at that place of a corvette and two brigs of war, with four battalions of troops on board, from Carthagena.

On Wednesday the schr. Maria Catharina, Danies, also arrived in eight days from Rio de la Hacha. The accounts by this vessel directly contradict the above statement; capt. Danies says that no men of war or troops had arrived at Rio de la Hacha previous to his sailing.

His excellency field-marshal Don Miguel de la Torre, late general in chief of the Spanish forces in Venezuela, and suite, who lately embarked in this port on board the schr. Cornelia, captain Moller, arrived at the port of Mayaguez, Porto Rico, after a short passage, on the 20th of this month where he was received with every demonstration of joy and respect by the inhabitants. On the following day his excellency set out for St. John's, the capital, to take upon himself the captain generalship of that fine fertile colony.

If the following intelligence be correct, the Spanish government finds it necessary to give an additional military strength to Cuba and Porto Rico, or still entertains the vain hope of reviving the war in South America. To some one of these objects the force mentioned in the annexed paragraph must be directed.

Curacao, Sept. 21.

The Spanish schr Concha, 40 ds. from Vigo, arrived on Thursday. We learn that she sailed from Vigo in company with the corvette Diana, brig of war, Hacint and three merchantmen, with 700 men on board, destination unknown. The Concha parted from these vessels off Martinique.

We copy the following from the New York Mercantile Advertiser:

The Spanish corvette Maria Francisca, ketch Hyena, and five transports, with 1500 men, have arrived at Porto Rico, from Havana, on their way to Porto Cabello. A considerable sum of money and a large quantity of provisions was on board the fleet. [It has been stated that this expedition was fitting out at Havana for the purpose of destroying the pirates at Cape Antonio, &c.]

The Curacoa papers state that the capture of the Spanish 44 gun frigate Prueba and Verganza, and corvette Alexander a 22 guns, by Lord Cochrane, intelligence which we published long since: but there is an error in saying his lordship had declared his intention of capturing all ships under the Chilian flag, as he fights under that flag and firmly adheres to it.

BRIG HENRY.

Curacoa, Sept. 21.

A brig, reported to be called the Henry arrived yesterday morning, in distress she is stated to be last from Bartholomews bound to St. Thomas, but was blown off the latter island in a gale, and having sprung a leak, bore up for this port. The Henry had 69 passengers on board.
