Dinner to Mr. Newton.—The people of Mr. Newton's Congressional district continue to bestow upon him the most unequivocal evidence of their attachment, and their indignation at the means by which he has been deprived of his seat, and they of their rightful representative. On the 1st inst. the citizens of Portsmouth gave him a splendid Public Dinner. We copy a few of the Toasts : The Constitution of the United States—The arch upon which rests the structure of our liberties. Its key-stone the Federal Judiciary— Without this its parts would soon fall asunder. The Union—“ It must be preserved.” In its defence we pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honors. John Quincy Adams—His merit exceeds his fame. History will do justice to his virtues, and posterity acknowledge the splendor of his talents. Henry Clay—“ With increased proof of his worth, we delight to renew the assurances of our confidence in his patriotism. talents and incorruptibility.” A nation's gratitude is fast preparing to honor him with the highest office in its gift. The nominees rejected by the Senate—Let them read the 12th verse of the 36th psalm : " The workers of iniquity are fallen : they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise Retrenchment and Reform—Like Milton's Sin and Death, they have hatched a host of imps that yelp across the treasury.
