The summer recess at the high school for students does not mean the cessation of work for the administration and custodians. On the contrary their work, although different, keeps pace with the busy school months. At present at the John Bassett Moore High School the sound of workmen may be heard in the halls, the stairwells, certain classrooms, and below the floor levels, as well as exterior areas at the school. On a tour of the school with Dr. George V. Kirk, district superintendent, and David K. Fauser, administrative assistant, it was revealed that estimates will be sought on repairs to the concrete steps at the main entrance to the lobby. All of the walls of the second floor halls, all stairwells are being painted white and green to match the first floor decor, completed last year. The old art room in the basement will have new asphalt tiles and baseboards installed. A new sewage ejection system has been installed at an estimated cost of $2,700, which was necessary due to the fact that the old system had cost $1,000 in three years for repairs. Necessary repairs are being made to the hot water tank and both boilers. Concrete blocks will be replaced in the area of driveways where necessary, and plastic material has been used on a stairway outside the basement. Workmen have repaired supporting concrete for the grates over cafeteria windows, and the grates have been bolted fast. Preventative roof maintenance plans will be made to encompass the three schools in the district. Meanwhile, the custodians have been busy on a program for the grounds of the school. Oversize shrubbery has been removed, and a fall planting program will be instituted. The janitors continue their work on the maintenance of shrubbery, and there are forty acres of grass to be cut.
