Frightful Death in Washington. About half past ten o'clock on Friday night, officers King and Rabbitt took shelter from a shower of rain in a barber's shop, on Seventh, between G and H streets, kept by three young colored men in partnership. Rabbitt sat down in one of the barber's chairs, and as he did so, the breast of his overcoat opened and the end of a pistol which was in his side pocket became displayed. Talley, one of the partners, seeing it, asked the officer to let him look at it, to which he consented. Talley, on getting the pistol, began handling the lock, but the officer cautioned him not to do so; but the warning had scarce escaped from his lips, when the pistol went off, and the ball entered the face of Brown, (another of the partners,) near the eye, and taking an upward direction it passed out through the back of the head.

The unfortunate man fell back and died instantly, without uttering a word or a cry. He was in the act of putting a piece of tobacco in his mouth, and was sitting within four feet of Talley, with whom he was talking pleasantly at the time. Talley was immediately conveyed to the watch house by the officers, and on their return they met the Chief of Police, McHenry, and officers Suit and Gormley, who proceeded at once to the barber's shop, where they found the third partner sitting on the sofa and in company with a little boy keeping watch over the dead. Brown was lying as he had fallen, a pool of blood had poured out on the floor from the lacerated brain, and in his fingers still remained the piece of tobacco. -Washington States.
