GOP Solon Asks Resignation Of Justice Douglas

WASHINGTON-(INS) - A veteran House Republican Monday demanded the resignation of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas who has called for U. S. recognition of Communist China.

The demand was made by Rep. Woodruff, Mich., who called Douglas' suggestion "the latest demonstration of a code of conduct that is highly peculiar, to say the least, in a Supreme Court Justice."

Woodruff said President Truman should ask Douglas to resign if he refuses to do so on his own. The congressman charged the jurist with having "given aid and comfort to the foes of the U. S. and democracy."
