What is this article about?
A convention in Worcester, Massachusetts, on the 27th ult., purportedly of dissatisfied Whigs over Gen. Taylor's nomination, was mainly attended by long-time Whig opponents like locofocos and third-party men. Leaders had previously opposed Mr. Winthrop as Speaker. Delegates were chosen for a similar Buffalo convention in August, but the effort to divide Whigs is expected to fail, with Massachusetts supporting Taylor.

They will not succeed. Massachusetts will go for Gen. Taylor by thousands, and that will answer.
Delegates were chosen to attend a Convention of like character to be holden at Buffalo in August. The list is composed of Anti-Winthrop Whigs, 3d party men and locofocos.
The motives of these men (we mean particularly those who hatched the scheme to defeat Mr Winthrop) are so well understood that their influence is limited, and instead of gathering whigs in their train they gather few except such as have for a long time been open opponents of the whigs. Were they suspected of acting conscientiously in the matter there would be some respect felt for their proceedings.

Event Details
The Convention at Worcester, Mass, (purporting to be a Convention of Whigs dissatisfied with the nomination of Gen. Taylor) on the 27th ult. was attended somewhat numerously, but instead of being disaffected whigs, it was composed mainly of persons who have for a long time been enemies to the whig cause. Several of the speakers we have known by reputation for years as locofocos or 3d party men. The leaders in the affair, (such as are nominally whigs) are the same as sought, at the opening of the present Congress, to defeat Mr Winthrop as Speaker of the House—a free State candidate, and an opponent of the war and the extension of slavery—They have tried in various ways to rule the whigs of Massachusetts for some years, and having been foiled, they now seek to divide them on the Presidential question.
