A riot of an alarming character took place in Pittsburgh on the evening of the 20th ult. Mr. Pepio, with his company of performers, had given offence in some way or other to the citizens of that place, and mob law was therefore resorted to in order to take vengeance. The circus, in which the performance was going on, and which was well filled by numbers of ladies and gentlemen, was approached with hostile intent, and stormed by the rioters. All attempts to appease them being in vain, and the work of destruction having been commenced by the mob, after they had allowed fifteen minutes for the ladies to retire, the besieged were obliged to defend themselves as well as they could. This they did after a few minutes struggle, effectually. One man, a Mr. Harizell, was shot dead by the circus men, and several severely injured.

The Greensburg Republican of the 24th ult. states that those concerned in the killing of Mr Hartzell were tried on the Tuesday preceding, and acquitted.
